Programs

Hyonyeo’s immersive programs focus on the whole child. We encourage the development of their physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth.

Our holistic education creates a positive learning experience where young people can develop the skills, knowledge, and values that will serve them for a lifetime.

Teaching a child the foundations of complementary and fundamental colors enables them to tap into their unique style and ideas, attain crucial life skills of problem-solving, critical thinking, and attention to detail. Students will learn the history of textiles, color and fashion theory. When children gain awareness about sustainability and environmental stewardship, they make informed decisions that consider the long-term consequences of their actions. When a child has their own sense of style it fosters independence that is based on informed opinions empowering them to be thoughtful decision makers and courageous self-explorers.

We unlock the barrier of self-doubt by exploring the inner artist in children to give them important life skills such as concentration and perseverance. Activities that encourage open-minded play supports development of cognitive, social-emotional and multisensory skills. As they progress through this program and beyond, art plays a pivotal role in growing their self-esteem and creativity.

This program introduces fundamental genres of photography. Children learn the history of photography with a hands-on curriculum where they will learn concepts such as exposure and composition. Each child will receive a camera to go capture a world through their eyes. Discovery of a child’s creative abilities helps them build a deeply personal understanding of themselves. Learning about people and cultures outside their own develops empathy – the foundation on which good judgment, as well as positive and healthy relationships throughout their life can be achieved.

Children develop diverse life skills in a collaborative setting. They will learn about basic cinematic techniques and structures about form, narrative, adaptations, framing and cinematography by watching  curated genres of iconic films – age appropriate – such as documentaries, experimental and international films of varying formats. Guided group discussions helps them refine communication, project management, the art of negotiations by respecting others with different abilities. Understanding how to read narratives, a child improves their reading and writing skills. Exposure to the art of filmmaking increases imagination and creativity inspiring kids to be bold and take risks.

This nature-based learning takes place in natural settings where elements of nature are brought into built environments. Children learn about their natural world through hands-on engagement in natural surroundings. This program focuses on learning outcomes centered around social-emotional, spiritual, and cognitive development. Exposure to natural settings restores their effect on attention, improves self-discipline, reduces stress while increasing physical activity and fitness which motivates and encourages learning.

About Sinden Lee

Building upon her experiences at prestigious institutions such as UC Berkeley and The Getty Institute, along with her notable career with tech giants like Amazon and Google, Sinden has embarked on a transformative new journey centered around philanthropy.

Motivated by her passion for the arts and her deep-rooted, profound admiration for first-generation immigrants who leave everything with the hopes of giving their children everything, Hyonyeo Foundation’s mission is to pay it forward and empower Asian-American youth to unlock their boundless potential and achieve enduring success.

Sinden established Hyonyeo Foundation in honor of her late mother, who instilled in her the cultural values of 효: a strong sense of obligation and responsibility that emphasizes children’s duty towards their parents. This Korean concept reflects Sinden’s ethos of devotion to others.
